Samsung took the stage at the IFA show in Berlin to lift the lid on a pair of Android tablets, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note.
Undeterred by a recent EU import ban on the Samsung Galaxy tab 10, the Korean electronics giant unveiled a 7.7-inch tablet with a Super AMOLED display and a brand new dual-core 1.4GHz processor.
The 335 gram Galaxy Tab 7.7 will ship with Android Honeycomb 3.2 as well as 22Mbps HSPA+ 3G wireless and will offer up to 10 hours of video playback time, Samsung said. The mini tablet also adds an SD card reader, 802.11n WiFi and dual cameras.
Samsung also went after the tablet phone crossover concept with a 5.3-inch screen device called the Galaxy Note. Armed with the same beefy dual-core 1.4GHz CPU as the Galaxy Tab 7.7, the Galaxy Note comes equipped with a WVGA Super AMOLED display, 8MB rear and 2MP forward facing camera.
Echoing the approach taken by HTC’s 7-inch Flyer tablet, the Samsung Note also comes equipped with a stylus pen and an array of applications designed to take advantage of the touch-screen ‘S’ pen.
There’s no indication when the devices will appear or what they’ll cost. One might imagine this is somewhat up in the air pending European legal events. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 may well get an easier time of it with the judge that recently found against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 pointing out that the only infringing issue could have been avoided by using Android Honeycomb, just as the Galaxy Tab 7.7 does.
