Apple took their time approving it

iPhone Google+ app arrives

Apple has approved the Google+ application for the iPhone

"iPhone, meet Google+," posted Google engineering boss Vic Gundotra on his Google+ profile, adding that the new app would be rolled out to Apple’s App Store "over the next few hours."

The app had been submitted to Apple’s App Store approval process, some time prior to the 4th of July. Computerworld pointed out that the approval took over twice as long as most App Store submissions, hinting that Apple spent some time scratching their chins on whether to allow Google to bring the social networking service to the firm’s tightly controlled platform.

Superficially, at least, the app looks very like the Android version which is good news as the Android version has met with considerable praise. That said, early customers reviews focused on the fact the app doesn’t work on iPod touches or indeed even Apple iPads.

It’s not known if Google have submitted a Google+ iPad application. So far there’s no Google+ tablet-specific application for Android either.

The iPhone Google+ application also includes the Huddle feature which allows group chat between members of a Google+ circle. Apple’s iTunes page for the app is here.
