Windows 8 to have the same system requirements as Windows 7

Windows 8 will have the same system requirements as Windows 7 according to a Microsoft executive speaking at the firm’s Worldwide Partner Conference in California.

While Vista represented a substantial specifications hike over the former Windows XP, the focus of Microsoft’s work for Windows 7 centred on performance such that the current generation operating system runs better on the same hardware than Vista.

Microsoft’s Windows veep Tami Reller told the WPC conference that there wont be any surprises in store when it comes to Windows 8 when it appears some time in 2012.

"In both of our Windows 8 previews, we talked about continuing on with the important trend that we started with Windows 7, keeping system requirements either flat or reducing them over time," said Reller according to a PC Adviser report.

The system requirements of Windows 7 include: 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of HD space and DirectX 9 compatible graphics hardware, the same as Windows Vista. Those specifications are already pretty low end, let alone in 2012.

That said, there’s a difference between system requirement and running the operating system comfortably.
