Online retailer ready for further expansion

Amazon opens new UK processing plant

Amazon has revealed that it’s opening a processing plant in Staffordshire, creating up to 900 new jobs.

The new centre will start operating from September and will deal with customers from the UK and across the world.

The latest move is just one of several which seem to show the firm is getting ready for significant growth.

The retailer revealed a steeper than expected drop in profits earlier on in the year, but this was put down to the cost of expansion.

In May, Amazon announced that it was creating jobs in Scotland, too, with a new fulfilment centre in Dunfermline and a customer service centre in Edinburgh opening soon.

With such rapid expansion, we can’t help but wonder what’s behind it – hopes for a big Christmas? High expectations for Amazon’s android tablet? Or has Amazon got something else up its sleeve?
