Korean electronics giant Samsung announced that the firm has sold 3 million Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones in less than two months.
The firm’s previous Android smartphone, the Galaxy S, took 30 days longer to read the 3 million milestone, going on to sell over ten-million worldwide. The firm managed such a feat with a spectacular growth in market share in the European market with Samsung devices the most popular mobile for 17 continuous weeks in the UK.
Yet the latest Galaxy S II has yet to launch in the US. Android enthusiast site Androidspin.com claimed that the Galaxy S would be rebranded as the Samsung Within on the American Sprint network for late July, and the same site claimed another variant of the smartphone would be offered by rival network Verizon.
Apple and Samsung are presently engaged in a patent dispute which most recently saw Samsung drop a counter-suit to Apple’s initiate broadside against the ‘slavishly’ copied smartphones. Samsung said dropping the suit was part of a strategy of ‘streamlining’ the raft of litigation the firm is engaged in with rival smartphone makers.
