The 13.3-inch Asus U36 notebook, billed as the ‘world’s thinnest Intel Core i5 processor’ based notebook, has arrived in the UK following a December appearance in the US.
With a lightweight magnesium alloy chassis just 19mm thick and weighing just 1.44Kg, the Asus U36 is seen as a competitor to the Macbook Air. Despite the beefy Intel Core i5 processor, the U36 is said to be good for up to 11.5 hours of battery life.
Interestingly the firm cited the ability to disable the built-in USB 3.0 functionality as one of the ways in which the U36 is able to achieve such a healthy battery life. With Intel having dragged their feed incorporating USB 3.0 support, manufacturers have turned to third party chipmakers but it seems this has come with a power penalty.
Already having appeared in British retail. albiet still not in stock, the £699 SKU is armed with an Intel Core i5 460M/480M 2.53 to 2.66 GHz, 4GB DDR3 1066 MHz SDRAM, 13.3-inch 16:9 HD (1366×768) LED back light display and an Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics, 500GB hard drive and Windows 7 64-bit pre-installed.
