Apple will initialy offer the iCloud music service for free according to an LA Times report.
Similar to rival offerings from Amazon and Google, the iCloud service will allow Apple customers to upload their music into Apple’s new iCloud service and then stream them to web sites and iOS devices.
However unlike rivals Amazon and Google, Apple has reportedly obtained licensing agreements with the four major record labels. The agreements will see Apple pay out 70 per cent of iCloud revenue to publishers, 12 per cent to song owners and pocket the remaining 18 per cent according to LA Times sources.
It’s not clear what iCloud will cost although the report suggested that it may be as little as $25 a year.
Apple took the unusual step of naming the iCloud service and revealing that the service would be unveiled at the iPhone maker’s worldwide developer conference next week.
