Popular app set to become official

Twitter buys TweetDeck

Twitter has moved to acquire popular Twitter software application TweetDeck for more than $40 million according to a CNNMoney report.

Citing ‘sources close to the deal’, the CNNMoney report says the deal was signed on Monday which will see Twitter acquire one of the most popular Twitter applications, available on a range of platforms including iOS, Android and PC desktop.

Refusing to confirm the deal, Twitter’s PR account tweeted: "For all those who might be curious, we continue to not comment on rumours."

The high priced acquisition of a software developer such as TweetDeck is evidence of how important the smartphone application experience is considered for continued success in the ongoing social networking land grab.
