CRN Partner Connect: Firm shows off new Chromebook

Cloud is a ‘tremendous opportunity’ says Google

There are still lots of opportunity in the cloud, Google’s Peter Lorant said at a CRN Partner Connect seminar yesterday.

Lorant, head of channels EMEA, Google Enterprise UK, was keen to point out that we are just at the beginning of the cloud phenomenon. He reminded the resellers and managers at the event that just a year ago, cloud was only a buzzword and said that cloud was a “tremendous opportunity that awaits us all.”

However, Lorant also cautioned that “that not all clouds are created equal” and cited the recent Sony data breach as evidence of flawed cloud security.

One of Google’s recently unveiled Chromebooks also made an appearance at the event. Lorant was running out of time at this point, but he was keen to show off the device’s super quick start-up time, eagerly counting off the eight seconds until it booted up in front of the crowd.

“One hundred per cent web is the ultimate extension of the cloud,” he said – suggesting, of course, that the Chromebook was the perfect device to help achieve this.
