Intel is working on new technologies that will facilitate the chipmaker’s prediction of 15 billion devices on the ‘cloud’ by 2015.
Speaking at a the Interop technology conference in Las Vegas, Intel Architecture Group chief Kirk Skaugen said that "virtually the entire population of the planet" would be connected to the cloud in some way over the next five years.
Skaugen said that developments were needed in technology and cloud architecture design. Breakthrough technology such as the new tr-gate 3D transistor and 22nm fabrication technology would be needed, he said.
Interesting Skaugen also called for a common standard of cloud computing interoperability, claiming that alternative cloud computing products from competing vendors was an undesirable development.
