Decides to "re-build" the network over the holidays

PlayStation online outage enters fifth day

Sony’s PlayStation Network is entering the fifth day of downtime with millions of gamers unable to play online or access streaming media over the Easter holidays.

Gamers were met with a message that says "PlayStationNetwork is currently undergoing maintenance" but a Sony blog post said that an "external intrusion" was to blame for the disruption with the electronics giant turning off the service on Wednesday evening.

Sony corporate communications and social media boss Patrick Seybold said that the firm was working around the clock to bring the networks back on line, adding that the company was "re-building" the system to "further strengthen our network infrastructure."

Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security," wrote Seybold on the Sony blog.
