Garmin launches touchscreen GPS watch

Navigation specialist Garmin unveiled the firm’s first touchscreen GPS wristwatch, the Forerunner 610 GPS sports watch

The firm described the Forerunner 610 as a "slim yet robust weather-proof touchscreen solution for serious runners seaking an extra advantage."

"Running with Forerunner 610 is like having a coach with you every step of the way," said Garmin sales boss Dan Bartel.

"From giving the basics such as pace, distance and time to monitoring your effort through heart rate, creating interval workouts and racing a friend on the other side of the world, Forerunner 610 becomes a necessary partner for all serious runners."

The Forerunner 610 houses a vibration motor for alerts such as heart rate, pace and distance when audible tones cannot be heard. A new Training Effect feature measures the impact of exercise on aerobic fitness and lets the user know how the workout improves fitness levels.

There’s no release date yet but the Forerunner 610 is set to cost $350 when it appears in the US.
