New Android handset with stunning specifications

HTC Sensation superphone revealed

Taiwanese smartphone giant HTC has unveiled the firm’s latest large-screen 4.3" Android smartphone, the HTC Sensation.

HTC pioneered the large 4.3-inch screen format device and has met with success with handsets such as the HD series, pre dating Android with Windows Mobile, through to the HD7 for Windows Phone 7 and a number of Android handsets including the Desire HD.

The new HTC Sensation boasts top shelf specifications with quad-band 3G, 1.2GHz dual-core ARM CPU, 8 megapixel auto focus camera capable of recording 1080p HD video and Bluetooth 3.0. The phone also features a forward facing camera for video calls.

The Sensation also boosts screen resolution to 960 x 540 which is the first time Android smartphones have made the move beyond the 800 x 480 standard and actually matches the height resolution of the iPhone 4’s Retina display although it’s 80 pixels short on width.

Some of the features HTC boast for the Sensation include a new instant capture camera, free of the usual delays associated with phone cameras.

Moving beyond an amvalently regarded front end customisatio, it’s now a highly polished feature laden software enhancement with a raft of cloud sync features and media sharing functionality.

The new Sense shipping with the Sensation also features an improved features a customised lock screen which can launch directly into applications.

Vodafone will have exclusive wraps on the Sensation when it first launches in mid-May, thereafter being more widely available on other carriers.

It’s not known exactly how much the Sensation will cost but Vodafone have taken to offering other high end smartphones such as the Samsung-made Nexus S for ‘free’ with 24-month £35 contracts.

It’s likely the Sensation will also be available for ‘free’ but it may match the carrier’s iPhone offering and require a £45 monthly contract or else require a payment from £89 to £139 up front for a lower level contact.

HTC’s Sensation web site is now up and Engadget has a hands-on.
