Intel announced the chipmaker has begun shipping of the Atom-based Oak Trail chipset for netbooks, low-end desktops and tablet computers.
The world’s largest CPU manufacturer said that it had gained over 35 "design wins" for the platform, indicating that the market can expect a deluge of products based on the new low-power achitecture.
Among the new products is the embedded Atom Z670 which, Intel said, allows the creation of smaller, thinner, fanless devices for a range of applications including industrial tablets.
"The new Intel Atom ‘Oak Trail’ platform, with ‘Cedar Trail’ to follow, are examples of our continued commitment to bring amazing personal and mobile experiences to netbook and tablet devices," said Intel netbook and tablet boss Doug Davis.
"We are accelerating the Intel Atom product line to now move faster than Moore’s law, bringing new products to market on three process technologies in the next 3 years," he added.
Intel cited compatibility with a range of operating systems including Android, MeeGo and Windows, while adding that integrated graphics and memory controllers meant the process is 60 percent smaller than previous generations.
Power reductions equate to all-day battery life, Intel said, and new technology has been included to support a new Enhanced Deeper Sleep mode.
Intel also announced that it would be providing a "sneak peak" of the firm’s upcoming 32nm Intel Atom platform codenamed "Cedar Trail" at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing kicking off this week.
