HP sought to contrast the firm’s channel partner against Apple’s as the IT giant unveiled upcoming partner support programmes for the WebOS platform.
Speaking in an interview with CRN at the firm’s partner conference in Las Vegas, HP partner chief stephen DeWitt described Apple’s partner programme as ‘transaction’, claiming that a lack of an ‘inclusive philosophy of partner capabilities’ was an ‘absurd’ strategy.
CRN quoted an unnamed solution provider which appeared to back up HP’s channel claims: "Unlike Apple, HP is very channel friendly. And if you have an issue with HP you can pick up the phone and talk to someone. That’s something that’s impossible with Apple."

DeWitt acknowledged that WebOS will take some to get off the ground but said that the firm planned investments in training partners to add WebOS and mobile solutions to their product offerings.
CRN also published an account of ASI Group president J. Ezell’s attempt to sign up to Apple’s VAR programme.
Ezell decried the lack of staff able to assist, saying Apple’s address of "one infinite loop" was representative of his firm’s experience of Apple’s channel partner programme.
