Opera Software amused by 17+ rating

Apple rates Mac Opera browser ‘adult only’

Apple has flagged the new Opera Mini web browser an adult-only application in the Mac App Store.

Opera Mini is the first third-party browser to be available on the new Mac App Store with the Norwegian-developed browser able to be downloaded and installed in much the same way as the iOS App Store for portable devices.

Opera Software’s Jan Standal greeted the curious 17+ age rating restriction with amusement, saying: "I’m very concerned. Seventeen is very young, and I am not sure if, at that age, people are ready to use such an application."

"It’s very fast, you know, and it has a lot of features. I think the download requirement should be at least 18," he added.

Opera Software pointed out that would-be users of the firm’s Opera Mini browser on Macs are able to visit the firm’s web site to download it directly.
