Valve adds Intel IPT security to Steam accounts

Game developer and digital shop owner Valve Software announced the addition of a Steam Guard feature aimed at improving account security.

Steam Guard gives PC gamers the ability to lock account management to a particular PC so that any attempt to change settings from another PC wont wont be possible without the user’s approval.

The feaure will also utilise an upcoming Intel hardware-based encryption technology called Intel Identity Protection Technology, or IPT for short.

Second generation Intel Core processors contain the technology which generates a new password every 30 seconds in a system that resembles online banking encryption key fob displays.

Valve said that Steam Guard would tell account holders if any attempts to access their account had been made from other computers.
