PS3s held after Korean firm wins import ban

PlayStation 3 consoles seized in LG patent row

The European civil court of justice approved an import ban sought by Korean electronics giant LG in an ongoing patent dispute surrounding intellectual property involved in Blu-ray playback.

Following the Hauge-based court ruling, European customs agencies are obliged to seize inbound shipments of alleged infringing devices including PlayStation 3 consoles and Bravia televisions.

Customs officials in Holland have already seized a shipment of consoles which threatens the spectre of stock shortages for Blu-ray capable videogames console.

Sony and LG have been going hard at it in ongoing intellectual property disputes with Sony earlier seeking the import ban of LG smartphones allegedly infringing Sony technology.

LG is also seeking a similar import ban in the United States.
