Taiwanese mobile maker HTC unveiled a 7-inch Android tablet at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Taking a pass on the usual 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet clones, HTC instead chose to equip the 7-inch aluminium unibody HTC Flyer with the smartphone optimised Android 2.3 OS and a combined touch and pen input system.
The firm also made much of the unique software featurs of the Flyer, describing the Flyer as the first tablet to offer the HTC Sense front end, likely behind the choice of the Android 2.3 OS, as well as a new ‘connected video service HTC Watch.
The HTC Flyer is based on a 1.5GHz ARM processor and offers HSPA+ wireless network capability. The tablet’s most interesting feature is the HTC Script technology which HTC would allow owners to "rediscover the natural act of writing."
Integrated ‘digital ink’ capabilities allow the Flyer the ability to take notes, sign contracts, draw pictures or write on web pages or photos, HTC said in a release.
The Flyer includes a HTC software feature called Timemark which enables the user to make a sound recording of a meeting and associate those with written notes made at the same time. Notes are then integrated with a calendar and the feature is also able to sychronise with Evernote.
The company said the HTC Flyer would be available globally in the second quarter. HTC also produced a short YouTube ‘first look’ video which you can see below:
