Chipmaker Qualcomm has confirmed a new high-performance quad-core chipset range which promises to be around 12x faster than current smartphone chips.
The new Snapdragon family will support larger resolutions, HD gaming and 3D capture and playback, as well as full 1080p when connecting to displays via HDMI.
Flagship chip, the AP8064 will provide 2.5GHz per core. Based on “Krait” micro-architecture, Qualcomm say the chips low-power CPU cores will consume 75 per cent less battery than previous Snapdragon chips.
Luis Pineda, senior vice president of computing and consumer products at Qualcomm, said: "We’re excited about the new, innovative devices the APQ8064 will enable in the market."
