British children spend an average of one hour and 50 minutes online a day and watch TV for 2 hours 40 minutes a day according to a Childwise monitor report.
The survey of 2,445 children between five and 16 quizzed the youngsters on their use of computers, televisions and reading time. The survey found that 62 per cent of the children had their own computer.
46 per cent said that they had their own internet access in their rooms and a third of the children aged between seven and 10 were uses of Facebook with the figure rising to 85 per cent for those aged between 13 and 16.
Margaret Morrissey, of lobby group Parents Outloud said that children couldn’t be blamed for the heavy use of sedentary activities such as watching TV or using the Internet.
"We can’t complain when children use the things we have provided and don’t have space to do recreational things outdoors with their parents," said Morrissey.
