Five arrests in the UK, 40 in the US

International swoop on Anonymous hacktivists

Law enforcement in the UK and the United States have made a number of arrests relating to the Anonymous ‘hacktivist’ group suspected of involvement in a coordinated series of DDoS attacks.

In the UK, the Metropolitan Police announced that eCrime Unit had arrested five males aged between 15 and 26 in coordinated raids in London, Surrey, Hertfordshire and the Midlands. The Met said that the action was part of a coordinated effort with international law enforcement.

The US FBI issued a series of arrest warrants for a total of 40 individuals wanted in connection with the activities of the Anonymous group and the use of the ‘Low Orbit Ion Canon’ denial of service tool distributed by the group.
