Intel announced that it has hired the BBC’s digital czar Erik Huggers to head up the chipmaker’s Digital Home Group.
Huggers had spent four years as the head of BBC Future Media & Technology with overall responsibility for mobile, internet and interactive television for the corporation.
BBC director general Mark Thompson wrote in an email announcing the move that Huggers had overseen "exceptional growth" in BBC Online, BBC Red Button and BBC Mobile while also trumpeting the record 145 million TV and Radio programme views via the BBC’s iPlayer during December.
Thompson described Huggers as the "key architect for a radical refocusing of BBC Online" while Intel boss Paul Otellini said: "Erik Huggers’ proven track record of managing a variety of digital media businesses will be an extraordinary asset to Intel’s digital home initiative."
