Galaxy premium brand KFA2 has launched what the firm says is the world’s first wireless graphics card with the KFA2 GTX 460 WHDI which delivers images to external devices via the Wireless Home Digital Interface standard.
The KFA2 GTX 460 WHDI sends uncompressed 1080p images at 60 frames per second via a 40MHz wide channel in the unlicensed 5GHz spectrum. The card is armed with five antennas and has a maximum range of 30 meters through walls in the typical household.
The device comes with a bundled receiver which plugs into display devices and the WHDI standard supports HDCP meaning that encrypted content such as Blu-rays can be transmitted to the target display. Presumably the company will make additional WHDI receivers available although it provided no further details.
Other than the wireless capability, the KFA2 card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 running at 675MHz and armed with 1GB of GDDR5 memory running at 900MHz.
The KFA GTX 460 WHDI is set to go on sale in Europe later this month but no pricing has yet been provided.
