CES 2011: Record-breaking international visitor numbers

CES 2011 declared ‘tremendous success’

The CES show in Las Vegas has drawn to a close with more than 140,000 industry professionals having attended the event.

The attendance figure was sharply up from the 126,000 last year, largely due to the record 30,000 attendees coming from outside of the US, said the show organiser, the Consumer Electronics Association.

The major technology trends from CES included the launch of more than 80 tablets, new products offering wireless 4G LTE standards, ‘connected’ TV technologies and a new feature for 2011, electric vehicles. Ford unveiled the first electric car with its Ford Focus Electric.

"The 2011 International CES was a phenomenal worldwide event that spanned global industries including technology, automotive and entertainment markets," said CEA boss Gary Shapiro.

"This global technology gathering featured more innovation, more news, more social media buzz and more international attendance than any other show in CES history."

The 2011 CES also featured heavily in worldwide social media with more than 158,000 CES-related tweets since Monday, said the CEA.
