MSI unveiled a major refresh of the firm’s notebook range as the firm shifts to Intel’s new Sandy Bridge technology.
At the high end, MSI’s gaming focused G Series gains new entries with the GT780, GT680, GE620 and GR620 notebooks, all armed with quad core Intel Core i7 processors and USB 3.0.
The 17.3-inch GT780 and 15.6-inch GT680 notebooks include Nvidia GeForce GTX 500 Series and 400 Series graphics cards along with Dynaudio speakers. MSI also said the models were also equipped with its own Turbo Drive Engine (TDE) technology which it said instantly throttles up system speeds as required.
MSI said that the GT680 would ship in January at around $1,500 while the larger GT780 would appear in the second quarter.
On the portable side of things, the MSI F Series also gains new additions including the 17.6-inch FX720 and FR720, and 15-inch FX620 and FR620 models featuring Intel Core i7 processors. The smallest form factor of the F Series, the 14-inch FX420 uses the Core i5 processor.
The FX420, FX620 and FX720 also have discrete graphics modes which utilise Nvidia GeForce GT 500 series graphics with 1GB of display RAM. MSI said that these models are also able to switch to the discrete graphics when needed.
The F Series will appear in the first quarter of 2011 starting at $700.
MSI also unveiled a raft of mainboards to take advantage of the Intel P67 and H67 chipsets for Sandy Bridge with models offering instant real-time overclocking and a graphical unified EFI BIOS as well as multiple BIOS recovery and a ‘super charger’ for rapid charging of mobile devices such as iPads and iPhones.
