British ISP says remote working a 'necessity'

‘One in six’ will work from home on Christmas Day

A survey by British ISP Demon Internet has found that one in six British Internet users will connected to work via their broadband on Christmas Day.

“We’ve identified a growing trend for Brits to work from home even at the unlikeliest of times,” said Demon boss Matt Cantwell. “As a nation we’re no longer restricted by set working hours and are often the most productive when working whenever and wherever suits us best.”

Demon’s survey found that over a half of those surveyed would be making business phone calls over the Christmas break while almost all, 95 per cent, said that they would be engaged in work-related emails from home.

“With tube strikes, winter illness and the ongoing snow chaos, remote working is no longer a ‘nice to have’, but a necessity.”

Of those working from home, 68 per cent said they would be accessing work files and documents remotely while 30 per cent said they would instead be using cloud-based applications.
