Cloud backup and file syncing service Dropbox has released the firm’s first non-beta version which fixes bugs, adds features and reduces resource consumption.
The new version of the popular Dropbox application fixes “hundreds” of bug fixes as well as offering support for extended attributes, selective sync and sports a new installation wizard.
“When you’re shipping software to millions of people, a problem that affects even 1 out of 10,000 is a big deal,” wrote Dropbox representative Jon Ying on the Dropbox blog.
“And the most important feature of any file syncing software is that it just works. This release represents thousands of hours fixing problems people should never have to think about: invalid file names on Windows, weird Unicode normalizations, Word and Excel file locking… the list goes on.”
The selective sync feature alone looks set to impress fans of the service with the software allowing different folders to be synced to different computers rather than a sync-everything-or-nothing approach.
Dropbox is available on PC, Mac and Linux desktop computer systems as well as Android, iPhone, iPad and Blackberry mobile devices.
The service offers 2GB of space for free while 50GB costs $9.99 per month.
