VIDEO: Nvidia Tegra 2 device is armed with a HDMI output

LG Optimus 2X dual-core smartphone arrives

Korean electronics giant LG is the first to announce a dual-core CPU smartphone with the firm’s Optimus 2X based on Nvidia’s Tegra 2.

LG said that the Tegra 2 brought “faster, smooth web browsing and applications and lets users multitask with virtually no screen lag.” The high-end Optimus 2X smartphone will launch with Android 2.2 but will be upgradable to Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ in “due course.”

“Dual-core technology is the next leap forward in mobile technology so this is no small achievement to be the first to offer a smartphone utilizing this technology,” said LG mobile boss Dr. Jong-seok Park.

In addition to the beefy 1GHz dual core ARM CPU, the Optimus 2X features a large 4-inch display, 8GB of Flash storage, 8 megapixel rear camera and a front VGA camera.

The device is good for 1080p video playback and has a HDMI output which can mirror the display, suggesting that the phone is not only good for watching HD video on a display device but also a pocket able game console.

A video emerged on YouTube from a Korean user demonstrating the Optimus 2X playing a game on a television:
