SIM-free version of HP's webOS 2.0-powered device

Palm Pre 2 to arrive in UK on Friday

HP has confirmed that the firm’s new Palm Pre 2 smartphone will be arriving SIM-free in the UK from this Friday the 12th of November.

HP tipped off pocket-lint with the news of the impending British launch of the Palm Pre 2, the first major revision to be produced since HP bought struggling smartphone maker Palm for $1.2 billion earlier this year. The new Pre 2 is based on a significantly updated webOS 2.0 while the hardware offers a 1GHz CPU and a 5-megapixel camera.

Among the new features are true multitasking and a feature called ‘Just Type’ where the user can begin typing without opening a specific messaging client. Further enhancements include the ability to display web pages with Adobe Flash content, Skype application as standard and Facebook 2.0.

The Pre 2 has been exclusively available in France on network operator SFR for the past month, costing €99 on a contract or €449 without. Earlier in the year HP announced that it plans to deploy webOS on a wide range of devices such as smartphones, tablets and even printers.
