Retailers across the country held special midnight openings for last night’s launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops – the follow up to he fastest selling game of all time, CoD: Modern Warfare 2.
Activision’s official launch event was held at Battersea Power Station, and celebrities such as Sophie Ellis Bexter, Chelsea footballer Wayne Bridge, and Tinie Tempah were rolled out during the celebrations.
The game has clocked an impressive 90 out of 100 on metacritic, and not just from the specialist press. The Guardian and Telegraph both gave the game full marks, with the former saying "Call of Duty: Black Ops quite probably represents the pinnacle of the linear military shooter experience."
Whether the game can topple the crown currently held by its predecessor remains to be seen.
"From the beginning, we focused our entire studio on creating the most immersive Call of Duty experience ever," said Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia. "Treyarch wanted to give Call of Duty fans the ultimate entertainment package this year. Black Ops delivers an epic and cinematic single player experience, an incredibly deep multiplayer offering, and endless hours of co-op fun with Zombies."
