Social networking giant to gain 200 year old Court Circular

Palace to launch British Monarchy Facebook page

Buckingham Palace has announced that it is to launch a British Monarchy Facebook page, joining other online initiatives such as the British Monarchy Flickr and YouTube channels.

The new Facebook page will offer pictures, video and news from the royal family as well as the Court Circular which aims to provide an up to date record of recent royal engagements. The Facebook page version of the Court Circular is a very modern twist on a tradition that began in the early 1800s in King George the Third’s reign.

The Monarchy has, however, been quick to adopt the Internet as a means of communicating with interested individuals worldwide, having launched the Royal Channel on YouTube in 2007. The site itself is expected to be maintained by staff and comments written by the Royals are unlikely to appear.

The site which was not live at time of posting is expected to appear at Facebook.com/TheBritishMonarchy.
