Low power clients aimed at the corporate sector

‘Jack PC’ is an entire PC in a wall plug

Israeli firm Chip PC Technologies has produced a line of so-called ‘thin client’ computers entirely housed inside a power-point style wall panel.

Taking small form factor computing to an unusual extreme, the Jack PC range is described as a “versatile feature-rich thin client computer fully integrated into an existing LAN Jack”. The devices are designed to be installed in walls, furniture or the floor, exposing the array of usual plugs and sockets found on a PC but with virtually nothing else.

The devices can also be powered by power over Ethernet (PoE) and offer services such as RDP, ICA and VDI support. Using RDP, for example, the device could act as a client for a Windows server hosting the session. The devices house USB ports, audio output and VGA or DVI video output depending on the model.

The devices are based on 500MHz RISC CPUs and run Windows CE to host the client software.
