Unveils two lines of solid state drives

Zalman to enter SSD market

PC cooling and noise-reduction specialist Zalman is set to enter the SSD market with two lines of solid state drives due to launch this year.

Tom’s Hardware reported that the company will be adding the new line up of flash-based storage to the firm’s existing repertoire of cases, power supplies and sundry high-end PC enthusiast accessories. The firm will launch two ranges of SSD drives called the S Series and the N Series, both based on the popular 2.5-inch SSD form factor.

Housed in brushed aluminium in a bid to apparently improve heat dissipation and weight, the S Series is based on JMicro controllers and will be optimised for ACHI mode while also offering TRIM command support for Windows 7. The S Series will come in 32, 64 and 128GB capacities with claimed sequential read rates of 260 MB/s. Write speeds depending on the drive capacities with 60, 120 and 210 MB/s on offer for each of the models.

The N series will come in 64 and 128GB sizes and utilises the Sandforce controller as seen in the highest performing drives on the market. Both drives will offer 280 MB/s read and 270 MB/s write speeds.

The S Series is set to launch with US pricing of $99, $149 and $249 for the 32, 64 and 128GB capacities respectively while the high-performance N Series will be priced at $169 for the 64GB unit and $289 for the 128GB model. No availability was mentioned at this stage.
