'Secret' version hides from the owner of the phone

Google bans rogue Android SMS snoop app

Google banned an Android application from the Android Marketplace designed to stealthily forward all SMS text messages to another number.

Secret SMS Replicator from DLP Mobile is designed to be installed by ‘jealous partners’ on Android smartphones which will subsequently forward all text messages to another phone number while the owner of the phone is unaware of the activity of the application.

The ‘secret’ version of the application appeared in the Marketplace for less than a day before Google removed it citing Marketplace terms and conditions. The regular version of the application designed to forward text messages as a backup feature is still available on the Marketplace.

Google’s action follows Apple’s decision to reject the application from the iPhone App Store.
