Currently holds 95% of market, situation expected to change

Apple dominates tablet sector

A lack of credible rivals has led Apple to dominate the tablet market, according to research from Strategy Analytics.

Total Telecom reports that around 95 per cent of tablet shipments last quarter were from Apple, while total tablet shipments rose by 26 per cent from the previous quarter.

Google’s Android operating system accounted for just two per cent of the total market, however this is expected to rise significantly as a range of models, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, hit the market.

According to research from Gartner, sales of this ‘second wave’ of tablets are expected to triple to 54.8 million units.
