Logitech has launched the Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 which, the company claims, makes batteries in wireless keyboards a thing of the past.
The K750 gathers enough power from the built-in solar panels to power the device under indoors although Logitech bundle a solar power application which features a lux meter to “help you get the necessary light” and provide information about backup battery levels.
"The keyboard is still the best input device for typing emails and IMs, updating your Facebook page or posting responses to your favourite blogs – and the Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is the next big innovation in keyboard technology," said Logitech keyboard and desktop marketing boss Denis Pavillard.
The firms first solar keyboard can stay charged for at least three months in total darkness and includes an integrated power indicator which “eliminates surprises”, the company said. Physically the K750 is just a third of an inch thick and offers rounded edges and a low-profile design with what Logitech describes as “Incurve keys.”
Incurve keys have a concave design which support the shape of the typists fingers and help guide to the right keys, said Logitech in a release. Soft, rounded edges also make it easier to move fingers from key to key. Inside the 2.4GHz wireless incorporates 128-bit AES encryption and the bundled Logitech Unifying receiver can support up to Unifying-ready mice and keyboards.
The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is expected to hit retail in the US and Europe in November and will cost around $80 or around £50.
