BT broadband restored following major weekend fault

BT said it has resolved the weekend service disruption that saw up to 20,000 British homes without broadband on Friday evening.

The problem affected large parts of northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland with engineers working through the night at an exchange near Edinburgh to resolve the issue according to a statement released by BT.

The service disruption wasn’t limited to broadband with a number of customers in the affected regions also losing telephone service. Beginning around 9PM on Friday night, service was disrupted until 7AM on Saturday with lingering faults carried over until Sunday.

The major disruption that affected not just BT retail customers but thousands of broadband customers using a service delivered over BT infrastructure. As recently as September a failure at BT’s Edinburgh node also resulted broadband disruption that lasted almost a full day.
