Blizzard offers ‘virtual tickets’ for upcoming BlizzCon 2010

BlizzCon 2010, the annual gaming expo of multi player developer giant Blizzard, is due to kick off this coming weekend with the firm selling virtual tickets to gaming fans.

While the physical event at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California is firmly sold out, lucky attendees will be able to play the latest versions of Blizzard game as well as speak with the developers in discussion panels and observe tournament competitions for games such as the recently launched Star Craft II.

"We look forward to providing a truly entertaining and informative convention experience to all attendees, as well as those joining us remotely from around the world," said Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime. "BlizzCon offers a great opportunity for us to meet our players and share the latest news about Blizzard games with them, and with the help of Tenacious D, we’re sure this year’s show will be one the audience will never forget."

In an effort to involve more of the firm’s millions of loyal players including the worldwide player base of World of Warcraft, Blizzard is offering a ‘BlizzCon Virtual Ticket’ which the company says will provide more than 50 hours of live HD coverage as well as exclusive BlizzCon 2010 items such as a World of Warcraft in-game pet and StartCraft II in-game items.

BlizzCon World of Warcraft-playing attendees have previously gained exclusive pets in this matter, marking them in game one of those lucky enough to visit the exclusive expo. This year’s WoW pet is called Deathy, a includes murloc companion garbed in Deathwing attire which Blizzard said would do his best to and doing his best to "strike fear into the hearts of Azeroth’s crustacean population."

The virtual ticket is available worldwide via Internet streaming and the American DirectTV service. Some coverage of the opening ceremony and tournaments will be provided for free on the BlizzCon web site. The company also issued a call for fans interested in careers within Blizzard to bring resumes, demos and portfolios.
