Games console to offer subscription-based film streaming in the UK

PS3 to gain Lovefilm app in November

Sony has confirmed that in November the PlayStation 3 will gain a Lovefilm application to provide access to the popular UK subscription film service.

The new application will allow Lovefilm subscribers to stream content through their television using an Internet connected PlayStation 3 games console. Members will be able to scroll through titles on the page and search through categories including ‘Pick of the Week’, ‘Most Watched’ and ‘Highest Rated’, view ratings and search through Lovefilm’s catalog by title, actor and genre.

“The Lovefilm service will become available on the Xross Media Bar providing most members of Lovefilm on subscription packages access to thousands of titles from major studios and independents, streamed instantly to their TV via their PS3,” said Lovefilm boss Simon Calver.

Lovefilm will also reportedly offer any PlayStation 3 owners who are not already Lovefilm subscribers new incentives to join the service, including free trials.
