Gary Kovacs to take over from November

Mozilla hires new CEO

Internet browser firm Mozilla has appointed a new CEO, who the firm hopes will help it expand in the mobile space.

Gary Kovacs will take up the position on November 8th, after current chief executive John Lilly steps down to pursue a career in venture capitalism.

Kovacs will be responsible for determining the direction of the company and its Firefox browser.

“I’m very happy to introduce Gary Kovacs as our new CEO for the Mozilla Corporation. I think he’s going to be great for Mozilla, and that our broad community will like him and be well served by him,” said Lilly. “He’s got a deep background in mobile over the last five years or so — that’s an incredibly important area where we’ve got a lot to prove in the coming years.”

Prior to joining Mozilla, Kovacs held senior roles at Sybase, Adobe and Macromedia, among other firms.
