Acer adds dual core Atom to Aspire One netbook

Acer refreshed the PC builder’s range of Aspire One netbooks including a model featuring Intel’s new Atom N550 dual-core processor.

The Aspire One AOD255 is armed with the Intel Atom N550 dual core CPU with Intel graphics and offers up to 8 hours of battery life. The AOD255 also has a 10.1-inch CrystalBrite LED-backlit display which Acer claims saves saves 22.2 per cent power compared with other netbook displays.

The new netbook is also armed 93 per cent standard sized keyboard, 1GB of DDR3 memory and a 250GB hard drive as wel as offering 802.11n Wi-Fi and 1.3 megapixel webcam. Running Windows 7 Starter, the AOD255 is preinstalled with Microsoft Office Starter 2010.

"We have enhanced our best-selling Aspire One netbook line with the improved performance and better power efficiency to improve the mobile computing experience for consumers," said Acer netbook marketing boss Pete Dailey

"With the new Aspire One AOD255, users are able to multitask, explore the Internet, connect with friends, and enjoy entertainment applications, without worrying about battery life or being tethered to an electrical outlet."

The Aspire One AOD255 comes red, black, brown and aquamarine and will cost around $329.99 when it appears at US retailers next month.
