GfK figures show growth for computer-focused indies

Independent IT retail thrives

Independent IT retailers experienced ten per cent growth last month, bucking the general downward trend among indies in most other sectors.

According to GfK, the biggest decline in August was among indies selling consumer electronics, which saw a 13.6 per cent month-on-month drop in value.

Along with IT’s ten per cent, independent retailers in the telecoms and photo sectors reported growth, at 13.3 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively.

Other market segments including domestic appliances, office and automotive, all saw decreases in value.

Meanwhile, online IT sales also saw a boost of 15.9 per cent, while consumer electronics were down 2.6 per cent.
