BT to offer free fibre upgrade to existing customers

BT Retail announced that existing broadband customers will be able to upgrade to BT’s upcoming 40Mb/s fibre service when it arrives.

The telco giant’s offer promises ADSL2+ now with a connection to the super fast BT Infinity fibre service when it’s available in the customer’s area. The firm is offers free line connection for users taking phone and broadband.

John Petter, managing director of BT’s Consumer division, said: “Fibre is the future of broadband and BT is raising the speed and standard for customers nationwide. BT Infinity is head and shoulders above other services when it comes to value.

"We are the only company offering you an upgrade to fibre for no extra monthly cost and the only company to offer free line installation across all new bundles.”

BT said that it plans to roll out fibre broadband to "two thirds of UK premises" by 2015 which it claims is one of the fastest deployments in the world.

The company said the speed of the fibre roll out was equivalent to connecting the number of premises in Singapore every quarter.
