CNET raves 'amazing' but only for the 'truly serious'

Dell launches new 30-inch IPS LCD monitor

Dell have launched the UltraSharp U3011 30-inch monitor, offering a a top of the range IPS LCD panel and 2560 x 1600 resolution.

The new U3011 is an update of the 3008WFP 30-inch monster but the refresh has dumped the Compact Flash from the memory card reader and the video inputs while it’s also added another HDMI port bringing the total to two.

30-inches of 2560 x 1600 desktop is clearly aimed at the high end market where the new panel based on IPS LCD technology, the same as in the iPhone 4’s Retina display, is promising even better colour accuracy, wide viewing angles, high contrast and 7ms refresh rate.

CNET Australia conducted an early review of the U3011, awarding it 9 out of 10 and an Editors’ Choice award concluding: "The U3011 is massive and sublime. It’s by no means cheap, but you’re paying for the panel."

The U3011 is selling on Dell’s US web site now for an eye watering $1,600. It’s expected to appear in Europe and elsewhere shortly.
