Has the potential iPad killer priced itself out of the market before launch?

Amazon prices Samsung Galaxy Tab at ?799

Online retailer Amazon seems to be selling the yet to launch Samsung Galaxy Tab for a staggering £799.

With the cheapest iPad retailing for £429 currently, if Amazon’s pricing is correct then Samsung may have a job on its hands wrestling away market share from Apple with such a highly priced rival.

To be fair to the device, the specs announced at IFA last month are pretty hefty for a tablet, with a Cortex A8 1.0GHz application processor, seven-inch TFT LCD display, 3G, wi-fi and bluetooth connectivity, email, voice and video calling, SMS, MMS functionality and Adobe Flash support – the latter a key advantage over Apple’s market leading device.

No official launch date or word on pricing has been given by Samsung, so it remains to be seen if Amazon has jumped the gun here.
