Lenovo has decided to scale back its involvement in the netbook segment, as it believes that the category will be swallowed up by the emerging tablet sector.
According to Microscope, Lenovo has also cited the high competition and low margins in the segment as deterrents.
“There are some big players in the netbook space, it is competitive and the price points are extremely low,” Lenovo’s executive director for the UK and Ireland, Neil Berville told Microscope.
“Our view is that netbooks will get eaten very quickly by iPads and slate products that are coming by the end of the year and early next. The end of netbooks’ life is on the horizon.”
