Survey finds a third of under-45s would buy the Apple tablet just because it's cool

Consumers only want iPad for its looks

Contrary to what your mother always told you, it’s not what’s on the inside that counts, if a new study about the iPad is to be believed.

According to the survey of 1,000 people by Broadband Expert, 34 per cent of consumers under the age of 45 would buy an iPad because the device itself looks good or because they themselves wanted to look good in front of their friends. By comparison, 26 per cent wanted one for its apps, features or capabilities.

However, the over-45 age group turned out to be less superficial – 31 per cent said they would buy an iPad for the apps, features or capabilities, while only nine per cent were concerned with the device’s looks or impressing others.

A quarter of 18 to 24-year-olds, meanwhile, said they would never buy an iPad.
