Study by the retail chain finds over 80 per cent of Britons enjoy learning about new technology

Best Buy: Britain a nation of ?techthusiasts?

Research conducted by Best Buy has found that Brits are increasingly reliant on technology, with a majority of people choosing to keep their internet connection over their washing machines.

The research found that 84 per cent of Britons claimed to enjoy learning about new technologies, but it also found that a quarter of respondents feel alienated by technology, while half worry about being left behind by the changes that technology can bring.

The study also highlighted a generation gap in attitudes towards technological devices. Around half of the people surveyed admitted to texting people in the same house as them, but this figure rose to 69 per cent in the under-25 age group. In addition, nearly half of the over-35 age group said that the first device they use when arriving home from work was the kettle, however, for under-35’s 38 per cent headed straight for their laptop, 35 per cent went straight to the TV and only 21 per cent went to the kettle.

“All of us now live and breathe in a digitised world. We communicate by text, we reach for the laptop as our window to the world, we download content in ever-increasing amounts, yet one in three of us still feels that we are not getting the most out of today’s technology,” said Best Buy UK’s marketing director Kevin Styles.

“Digital advances can make our lives easier, more fun, more productive and better connected. We want to demonstrate to customers that everyone can get the most out of their technology to live a fuller, richer, faster, digital life.”
