Electronics vendor hopes to ride on the coattails of the 3D TV boom

LG looks to boost 3D laptop sales

LG Electronics is aiming to increase shipments of 3D laptops by 30 per cent next year, as TVs drive the technology into the mainstream.

The Korean electronics firm expects global sales of 3D notebooks to increase fivefold to 1.1 million units in 2011 and rise again to 13.8 million units by 2015, according to Reuters.

"With the availability of more 3D content, consumers are enjoying a new experience, and we think that’ll drive growth of the 3D computer market," LG’s mobile communications PC business team leader, Harrison Park, said.

LG unveiled three new 3D notebook computers today, priced from around $1,300.

The firm, which is the world’s second-largest television manufacturer, said earlier this year it is aiming to sell a million 3D TVs this year.
